Welcome to the Water Conservation Research Database, run by the Water Supply
and Regulation (WSR) Division at Defra in conjunction with Water Demand
Management (WDM) at the Environment Agency.
WSR are concerned with the development of all aspects of water policy in
England, including water conservation, leakage, supply and resources, and the
regulatory systems for the water environment and the water industry.
We work closely with the Environment Agency, which manages water resources and enforces water quality
standards, and the Office of Water
Services (Ofwat), which is responsible for economic
regulation of the water industry.
WDM is the focal point within the
Environment Agency for the science and practice of water demand
management.
As a centre of expertise, WDM is at the forefront of matters relating to
national and international water resources, demand management and water
conservation. It provides technical and practical advice to both the Agency and
external bodies.
The aims of the research database are to:
- Collect and maintain information from organisations and individuals carrying
out research, trials or casework on water conservation which are completed,
underway or proposed, and where the findings of the research will be available
in the public domain;
- Publish high level information about these projects so as to encourage
collaboration, minimise duplication of effort, publicise the availability of
research and assist with the dissemination of results.
Search the database for projects on
water conservation and efficiency which are either currently running or have
reports available.
Submit a project for inclusion on the database using
the online form, or amend a project already on the database by searching
for the project and using the 'Add amendment' button.
The Links Page lists other web sources
for research on water conservation and tools to assist in reducing water
consumption.
Posting a potential project
If you have a specific proposal for research on any aspect of water efficiency or conservation and want to seek
sponsorship or a project partner via this website, please send an
e-mail with the following information:
- Project proposer’s name and full contact details (Please indicate whether you would be happy for these details to be posted
online, or would prefer Defra to act as first point of contact);
